Robots have common behaviours, ie robots can follow a path (path following mode), the can avoid obstacles (avoidance mode), and they can operate in wander mode.The robots can be programmed accordingly. In this playful installation they are trying to find a mate. Depending on their proximity to one another they produce aggressive sounds to warn one another off and to communicate.
This is the second in my series of works with these robots. It is a prototype development experimental installation using robots to make sound composition. They react to each others movement using (Motes) wireless sensors which are added to the electronics of the ten robots. As they interact it makes a generative sound composition of the environment they are in. This prototype was made at the The Watershed Media Centre in Bristol in 2005 . (Thanks to Paddy for the vidoes). The sound composition represents attraction of the robots to one another.
Other developments include during this phase of experimentation. Note this work is still idevelopmenty and if you want to exhibit it or commission for development work on please contact. The development could take place as part as a workshop or residency.
A. Peep hole installation with all sounds broadcast to internet via the CCTV system.
B. Mating dance proximity program still in development needs more work to attack the red robot.
C. Robot XXX rated channel with pay per view subscription in progress for when the robots actually mate, have sex, and give birth.
D. Other technology developments include the integration of more wireless sensors on the motes for more environmental usage outside.
