Robotica II: - "Robots Mating. What Robots Get Up To After Dark" by Stanza

stanza robot

The robots wandering are around in search of a mate. A sound composition is created that represents the attraction and avoidance of the robots to one another. What robots get up to when the lights go out. The are conducting a mating ritual behind closed doors with peep hole view the result is a musical robot symphonic.

This is the second installation in the series called Robotica. It is an interactive artwork with robots wandering around the gallery. This experimental installation involves the robots interacting to make sound compositions. They react to each others movement using wireless sensors which are added to the electronics of the ten robots. As they interact it makes a generative sound composition of the environment they are in.

This artwork was made at the The Watershed Media Centre in Bristol in 2005 . (Thanks to Paddy for the vidoes now offline).

Robots have common behaviours, and they can operate in wander mode trying to seek and then avoid one another. In this playful installation they are trying to find a mate. Depending on their proximity to one another they produce aggressive sounds to warn one another off and to communicate. (Note there is one red one )
